I’m 45 years old, and of course back in my younger days I never used sunscreen. Now I have brown spots all over the top of my back. They do not look like age spots that are on my hands and face. They are raised, and a dark brown in color. I need to know if I should make an appointment to see my physician or if I’m worring over nothing.
Answer:
Based on your description, these lesions probably represent “liver spots” also known as solar lentigines and seborrheic keratoses. However, some cases of melanoma and other forms of skin cancer can appear similar and it would probably be a good idea to get at least one overall evaluation by a dermatologist. Some of the information that we have posted on our site gives information about what to look for if you are worried about skin cancer.
