I am 27 years old. About three years ago I found a dark gray mark on the right side of my chest just above my breast. I went to the hospital with it and they told me it was a melanoma. They said it was ok but I have not been seen since. It used to stick out but now it looks like it has sunk in. What do you think I should do?
If you have the diagnosis of a melanoma, you will need a biopsy and complete surgical excision of the site and depending on how deep the lesion is, you may need a lymph node biopsy. Many times, patients here the word “carcinoma” and confuse it with melanoma. Thus, the most important first step is to get a biopsy performed and confirm the diagnosis and then your doctor will give you further recommendations.
